Shriver Media and Sounds True Present:

Radically Reframing Aging

Today’s Groundbreakers on Age, Health, Purpose & Joy
Hosted by Maria Shriver Journalist, author, and advocate
A Free, Seven-Day Online Event
October 24–30, 2022
Now with 6 new guests and 2 extra days!
Love the focus on lengthening our health spans not just the lifespan. Also the theme in both presentations that focusing on and nurturing our own well-being- whether through nutrition, psychotherapy, meditation, mindfulness, practices of joy and gratitude, etc.- is the best way to inspire and influence others rather than directly telling anyone else what to do, which doesn’t tend to work. Our own well-being is contagious in a great way and impacts our environment.
This is a great program. So many ideas and encouragement. We all need this! I’m on the right path. Just need to keep going 🦋Thanks Maria!!
Session 1 comment. For even older adults, they need paths to keep or make their worlds bigger again, their worlds can become so small after all the losses aging can bring. So, PICKING UP the phone might be the push up. Writing letters again might be the push up. Attending more gatherings might be the pushups rather than all the thinking, meditating, etc. t
They need to connect with others. And making new friends may be out of their comfort zone….
Thanks
I’m only turning 55 years old this year, but aging is aging. I also work in the Senior Living Industry, so I understand geriatrics.
Very inspiring conversations – I love it, and will also share with friends.
Thank you Maria!!
This whole program through day two has been Phenomenal! I’m continuing to share broadly with my friends of all ages! Thank you so much for this gift to everybody!
Extremely helpful. I was forced to retire at 80 because of covid. I feel like other people are looking to see if I have Dementia. It is helpful for me not to think of myself as 81.
Very inspiring and informative talks
I walk at least 4-5 miles daily. I’m mindful of my food intake. I do my own food preparation. Since my retirement in December 2021, I’m able to prepare more thoughtful and delicious salads and food overall and enjoy with greater ease versus hustling through the allotted lunch break. I try to meditate about 2 times per week but plan to increase going forward. I make a conscious effort to surround myself in joyful arenas. During the height of the pandemic I stopped my volunteer efforts but plan to resume soon.
I have felt so alone in facing aging issues, wishing there was someone to talk to, some guidance… and here you are! THANK YOU for doing this.
Inspiring speakers today! many thanks Maria Shriver for helping so many to access this wisdom!
I recently turned 70yrs. I started to feel that this is it..getting ready for the end of life and then i came across this seminar OMG!!.I WANT to live till 100yrs.I am sooooo inspired. THIS is what i needed and not what i kept hearing within my environment to sit back and pick up the rosary. THANK YOU SO MUCH. Please let me know how i can stay connected through newsletters, zoom sessions etc. Much love to all.STAY BLESSED!!
Loved what you said!!
For the last several years, I e been diving into art. And I have never done art before. I think learning is keeping my mind active. I need to start meditating again, and being present in the moments, like when I walk. The biggest challenge for me is winter and getting out of the house.
My mom is 84 and suffers from depression. She still cooks meals and they eat somewhat healthy. But I think her depression is more focused on her body and not being able to do things like she used to do. She is an avid gardener, but can’t do as much as she once did. I try to get her engaged in reading and doing other things, but I’m really not sure how to get her motivated to do more and keep learning new things. I almost feel like she has given up on life or feels like life has given up on her. She gets around pretty well and gets out of the house for breakfast with friends once a week, but lives in a rural area. So, no walking really unless she does so on the farm and really no daily interaction except with my dad. I wish I could do more.
Dear Marie,
I will be 84 in April . Thank you Marie for your Sunday newsletter . I look forward to the inspiring ideas you share and great links to speakers and writers .
I am very inspired by this Aging seminar! I just watched day 2.
I recently joined a Power of Eight group as we use intentional prayer for peace and each other’s health challenges. It is lovely to meet weekly with our little group of eight in community!
My thirty year spiritual community has been zooming thru covid challenges and search for a new minister as our founding minister retired last year and we are just beginning to meet in person for services twice a month.
I have found programs like yours a huge help as I continue to try to age well. I retired from work at age 80 as founding director of a community substance abuse prevention and family support program . I continue involvement as a board member and I know that helps me still feel relevant and hopefully a beneficial member of society.
Marie, thank you for all you do and what you bring to a grateful audience ,
Sincerely ,
Lynne Scheiter
This topic and presenters. Inspired me to start living again. I am almost 84, have 2 children who live nearby and 3 adult grandchildren. One of them will have my great grandson in 5 months. I use a walker or cane to get around because of arthritis in my knees so I live in Assisted Living facility and my husband lives next door in Memory Care with Parkinson’s Disease and Lewy Body dementia. We are both lonely for each other. He is having seizures so can’t take him anywhere and going to Memory Care to see him depresses me terribly. I do most of the things the presenters suggest but know I need to have more purpose so I can feel joyful each day. Must try to live in the NOW. Thank you for stirring my soul Maria.
3/1/22 I have relearned what I had forgotten, because of not using the tools given me. OH boy, how wonderful to be re introduced to ownership of ones life and giving up worry.
Great sessions! Goodies work is so.needed
Hi there Maria and all the folks who joined today,
Thank you for hosting this topic. I’d like to re-format and emphasize your tag line to journalist, author AND ADVOCATE!
I knew I’d be home today (not at work) and set my calendar to join your Day #2. Am feeling delight, joy and ever-present that I took your invitation to heart and joined you and your 4 guests today.
I am grateful I subscribe to your Sunday paper, believe in your brain brand MOSH and made you my honorary ADVOCATE!
Just like you, I believe in love and trust and community.
Thank you for all you do!
Fabulous series – thank you for creating this for us, Maria. I don’t want it to end!
As many have said, the word Aging and others like it have a negative connection for many people. I use the words ‘chronologically Advancing’ and I chuckle as does the listener, when I use it. When I wish to discuss Aging., ‘Advancing’ in connection with aging is a much more building word. I suggest to people to say, ‘ I am in ‘advancement’ rather than ‘retirement’. You are not retiring and going to sleep for the majority of your coming time. We become our language. Choose our words carefully.
What a wonderful session! Goldie and Deepak bring so much to humanity. That’s the way to age……..bringing new life to humanity.
Wonderful program filled with helpful and applicable info!
Loved todays sessions – so much to put into practice!! Thank you!!!!
Thank you Maria, Deepa and Goldie, You all gave me a motivational bump to get moving. I will be 82 this month and have been planning to start up a group for women entitled, “Spirit Circle for Women.” It is in the planning stage. The purpose is to help people to go beyond body into their deeper self to experience their spirit self.
Your sharing today inspired and encouraged me to move forward. Thank you for all you are doing to bring joy and love to this human community
So inspiring!!! Four amazing guests today.
Day 2; as enlightening as day 1! Both sessions were helpful to hear! Thank you!!
Find the joy! Loved the explanation about the different types of brains. “Love in action is a wonderful mantra. Thanks for the insightful session.
Is this my sister Tamara’s friend from Coppell?
I just knew it! I knew I wasn’t alone . . . Some amazing windows were opened with the first two sessions. Wow! The curtains that hid all the possibilities of the rest of my life are gone. Time for the real adventure. Thank you.
Session 2 was phenomenal. There were many take-a-ways from both Goldie and Deepak to reshape the way you think about your life and aging and how important it is to keep learning and find wonder and awe in the world around you. Thank you, Maria, for this wonderful conference.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Very empowering, took many notes and plan to begin incorporating some of these changes within myself and sharing the information with my loved ones.
So happy to hear from Deepak and Goldie. I have had an on and off meditation practice since 1973 when I was introduced to transcendental meditation. I will be 79 on Friday! I also had my then 5 and 3 year old children initiated. How their practice has evolved I am not sure. Mine has been intermittent. I now use Chopra meditation. Thank you Deepak for all you do.
Fantastic speakers! Agree with all the comments above, except I’ll pass on the exploding coffee!
Key takeaway: Our behavior creates habits and I want to choose the behaviors that bring me joy in my body and soul.
–moving onto my next adventure at 67 yo
I water the flowers 🌺 not the weeds !
I’m thrilled that you are doing this wonderful series. So needed now. Day 2 was excellent. Thank you.
Wow! Now that was worth taking notes on! I really appreciate the ideas and positive outlooks of all four of your guests. Thank you! At 75 I was beginning to wonder how to create excitement and goals in my life. Especially after Covid and being more isolated. This really gave me a way to move forward!
Thank you Maria,
Loved this session
I am 67 and this was an affirmation of what I began to do about 2 years ago and also gave me knowledge to do more to continue in my journey
Wonderful talks
Thank you so much.
I have taken a great deal away from today and am keen to start working on some of the ideas given not just for me in my 50s but for my teenage child who is struggling emotionally at the moment.
Grateful for this presentation. Thank-you!
I will tap into the resources, books and relevant digital material, to deepen my relationship with myself and others. Meaningful take away – “The only measure of success in life our joy of it.”
Thanks for the tool, a joy compass.
My Daily intentions continue to SEE any person, sign of nature, or struggle before me and remain present to it as no greater love experience wraps My heart and mind, befriending my brain.
Peace and t/y !
Until day 3!
Deepak and Goldie were my favorites so far. I love the joy they deliberately bring to their lives each day and the encouragement the gave to we listeners. I have an amazing amount of energy, creativity and happiness that i try to display in my life every day. I also have anxious moments and i loved the pause button idea that i can certainly utilize as i can be quite impatient at times. I am defiantly interested in the program Deepak introduced. THANK YOU, THANK YOU GOLDIE AND DEEPAK
As a follower of Deepak, and now Goldie, I have learned that “positive spirit” is crucial to achieve joy! At the ripening age of 71, I began doing “Abstract Realism” Photography and Artistry! My mind is exploding with creativity and positive emotions. My world and mind is full of love and color! I have reached an ongoing meditative state of joy! Hopefully you can feel this in my artistry at: Artzsy.com
Your art is beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
I love this series and all the great speakers ! It reaffirms what we continue to experience. Our culture tends not to honor the “Elder”, if anything they become invisible. No more! It is important to nourish the mind, body, and spirit to age boldly. We created a workshop series during the Pandemic to help women honor this beautiful aging process with all the curves. Be your pearl. http://www.pearlsofwisewomen.com

Here’s what happened this morning after listening to 20 minutes of Deepak and Goldie. As they spoke, I was so anticipating my early morning ritual. I have my coffee and listen to the dove cooing outside the window before my sister gets up and starts telling me all the CNN messages on her phone. My dove and I meditate together.. I was so looking forward to this. So, I put my coffee in the microwave to get it hotter, as I do every morning. Instead of putting it on for 30 seconds I put it on for 3 minutes. I was blissfully “pulling down the heavens” in front of the microwave when I heard a loud-ish noise. The coffee had blown up and it was everywhere! I spent the time I would have had to myself, meditating with my dove, cleaning up the coffee! That’s how life sneaks in sometimes and thwarts your plans! The good news is I cleaned it all up before my sister came downstairs to cook her eggs. I listened–really listened–to what Deepak, Goldie, and Maria had to say and will take it to heart.
after a lifetime of working and volunteering, I decided to buy paints and canvas during covid lockdown to challenge myself and try something totally new.. I love it as I get in the zone and it”s my form of meditation.. So grateful for this connection to myself.
Very inspired by all 4 speakers. I am savoring and honoring the awareness that we come into the world with the love – food connection and allowing grace on the journey as I consider Deepok’s 4 stages of development. I am grateful for all the wisdom shared today! 95% is up to us in this triad integration of mind, body, and soul… that’s pretty powerful to know. My reading list has grown and my mind will be taking more frequent breaks. My recent vegetarian eating is becoming a lifestyle and with today’s insights, I feel an expanded desire to grow in my nutritional knowledge. I will be doing one of Dr. Amy’s emotional pushups, #3, for Lent. Just beautiful! Great way to start my day. Thank you Maria!
Mary Jo. What is “emotional pick up #3?
Planning my own Lenten practice Thank you
Så underbart att få deltaga. Hoppet är tänt och livet är här och nu i kärlek.
I love Goldie Hawn!
